LORD GIVE ME A SIGN- pay attention to the message and not the messenger

What inspired this entry this morning was hearing several people talk badly about DMX's newest single and video 'Lord Give Me A Sign.' It has even been said its not Jesus Walks by Kanye West, we tend to compare things and people instead of seeing them for what they are.
Lets be real a lot of these same people complained when they heard Jesus Walks, then brought the album. Both songs serve a purpose and when we listen to the message and stop looking at the messenger. This song will be felt by the youth who can relate to the angst and frustration and even desperation in the lyrics. I much rather hear my 16 year old daughter and the youth of today running around singing Lord Give Me a Sign or Jesus Walks than Laffy Taffy, I Love My B@#*#, E-40's new single coming out White Gyrl which is a catchy tune about Cocaine.

Let me take your hand, Guide me,
I walk slow, Stay right beside me
The devils tryna find me, hide me
Hold up I take that back
Protect me & give me the strength to fight back
LORD GIVE ME A SIGN
Lord Give Me A Sign will reach even more than Jesus Walks cause urban kids and even many over the age of 21 in anyhood USA who feel hopeless, who feel alone, who know the Lord but still have an inner struggle, a fight between good and bad inside them. This is and will become their theme song. This song will reach those in the streets that a Jesus Walks or today's Gospel by Kirk Franklin or Yolanda Adams wont. Those who don't know the Lord and those who aint in anybodies church. If you look past DMXs various arrest and trouble he has been in, this is a positive song for the youth to be singing. Some of the lyrics that come out his mouth may make you not want your child tgo listen to his entire album, but there is alwasy a clean copy and any one of his fans can tell you every album has had a prayer and thats how he ends each show on stage in prayer.
This song is for those who have been in the same struggle the lost as well as those children that are basically good, grew up in church and have to deal with the temptations the youth face. The struggle to be good and a christian in the crazy world we live in, where it is much easier to do bad.
When most adults have nothing good to sat about today's hip-hop, with its misogynistic and gangsta and greed infested lyrics, Lord Gives Me A Sign should give you a sign of what God is doin thru hip-hop. It wont happen over night and it wouldn't have the impact if every record had the same message. Like Kanye West 'Jesus Walks' would not have been as successful if Kanye did not do what he does on the rest of the cuts. An album full of Jesus Walks wouldn't not have sold as much or had the impact. He would not have been invited to perform it at all these big award shows, where many outside his demographic would be exposed to it. Same can be said about Lord Give Me A Sign. The bible is full of supporting characters that many said not him or her, how can they be... Same is true now.
So listen to the message and stop looking at the messenger. Actually take a minute and listen to the lyrics, the thing that bothered most was the people complaining about the record confessed they didnt know the song lyrics.
That concludes my rant for today
peace and blessings
AJ Woodson

AMEN Brother AJ!
"He without sin shall cast the first stone..."
I think we should enjoy "Lord Give me a Sign" for the message it brings and for the moment. I tend to be a skeptic when our secular musicians lead us down the righteous path and then turn away. However, for the moment and for what it's worth, the song is a better anthem for our kids than CHICKEN NOODLE SOUP. And again we must remember that we fall down but we get up but if for the moment we can sing something other than "trying to get to you and that booty." then maybe we might get to somewhere other than the corner store, the liquor store, or the club.
We do need something uplifting for these times, in light of the war, the anniversary of 911, Hurricane Katrina, all of the wrong in the world we need something to inspire a generation.
I will make one comparison though, it does bring me back to graduation day a few years back and we were uplifted by the words of another hip hop guru:
I KNOW I CAN, BE WHAT I WANT TO BE.
IF I WORK HARD FOR IT, I'LL BE WHAT I WANT TO BE...
AMEN!!!

thank u all for your comments
it's God that gives me the words and teh ability to express them and your feedback that give me the inspiration to keep doin it

Urbanmuze I agree, but someone is reading this today and looking at their screen like AJ and questioning my sincerity

God uses what and who He needs to use to get that message out at that minute. Mel Gibson may never doin anything worthy of Passion Of Christ the rest of his life, but he was obedient and got Gods message out on that one project.

thanx Des
and thanx Dee Dee
i dont know about being a greater messenger but I truly appreciate the feedback and compliment
feel free to forward to your people

thanx
everyone else keep the comments and feedback comin

Concerning "Lord Give Me A Sign."
I can respect someone who takes a stand for up lifting God and even someone who up lifts objectifying women as long as it's done based on their truest beliefs. Even the apostle Paul was once a killer. But that was true ignorance. But I cannot stand a hypocrite. How can both blessings and cursings come from the same mouth? That's what the bible speaks against in the book of James Chapter 3. We as a people compromise too much. We are starting to believe in fake everything, even fake prophets. How can you ask me to wade through the man's other offensive stuff to get to his "positive" stuff. No I don't want my son to listen to someone who can't make up their minds how they are going to live. Life is too short. You can waste your time listening to it but we all know that a man never got anywhere in his heart by being indecisive. The money don't mean a thang if you don't know who you are or what you're about inside and your mistakes are the proof of that. Someone should ask DMX what banner is he going to hold up? That's not growth, it is compromise. Where do you stand today writer? How long will you love that which does not love you back?
